All Nightmare Long

Metallica has announced the next single to come of their latest album Death Magnetic will be "All Nightmare Long". I really enjoy this song, even though it's in drop D tuning which isn't my favorite, it works with this song. It's probably one of the hardest song off the new CD, or even since 1988's "...And Justice For All", and should be successful. It will be a digital download but I guess it will come with a three disc set, including a video, which I can't wait for. I've seen other Metallica videos and they can be pretty cool, so you can imagine a video about nightmares. I've heard a lot of people sat that this was their favorite track off the new album as well.

Even though I'm not the biggest fan of the Black Album, All Nightmare Long sounds somewhat similar to the song Enter Sandman which was an extemely successful song from that album. Especially the opening hypnotic riff. It's just like Metallica to start out with and acoustic opening, then kick it into high gear with distrotion, and this song does it very well.

This song also rocks in a lot of different ways, you could almost call it Progressive, much like ...And Justice For All. You start out enjoying the sounds of the acoustic begining, then suddenly you want to head bang. Then it changes again, you're tapping your feet, then you go back into a state of agression. This song rocks on many different levels. It's almost like they're taking ideas from their glory days in the eighties and putting a new twist on them. I'd give the song a 4/5 for a rating.

Crashed!

Recently Guns N Roses released their new album Chinese Democracy. Since the album had been on hold for about eighteen years GNR and Dr. Pepper made a deal. Dr. Pepper said that if Guns N Roses in fact release their CD on the promised date, they would give everyone in America a free Dr. Pepper, which is pretty cool. But Dr. Pepper's website ended up crashing, not allowing the fans to get their coupon for their free soft drink. Now Axl Rose and the rest of the band are seeking an apology from the company, or they may take legal action against them.

I for one think this is absolutely ridiculous of GNR to take this so seriously. They have to understand that sometimes websites crash, and it isn't exactly any ones fault. This is just one more example we can give about Axl's crybaby attitude. I don't think that people are freaking out all that bad about this incident. How much does a Dr. Pepper cost anyway? They're only like a dollar something, and they want to take legal action against them. Don't worry Axl I'm sure you'll get your "apology" soon enough.

Axl's attorney says that Dr. Pepper was total unprepared for the amount of people that would be swarming to their site in order to claim their coupon , and even said that the company was reckless and stupid. Most visitors were greeted to the site with an error message before the site finally just shut down completely.

From another prospective, I guess I can see where they're coming from. Dr. Pepper should have been a little bit more prepared for the mass of people looking for a free Dr. Pepper. But who new so many people would want one. I guess people just love to get free things even if it is just something to drink.

Gone Platinum

It’s been just six weeks since legendary thrash metal band Metallica released their new CD Death Magnetic, and it has already gone platinum. The album sold 490,000 copies in the first three days on the shelves. It debuted at number one on the Billboard top 200, and is the bands fifth album to top the charts. They also topped charts in many other countries like Canada and the U.K. This breaks their previous tie for first with U2, Dave Matthews Band, and The Beatles, who have four albums at the number one spot. Now this album isn’t exactly Master of Puppets, but it does refer back to their early days in the 80’s. They’ve gone back to what made them famous in the first place, they went back to basics. You could also say that lead guitarist Kirk Hammett is getting revenge on this album. In the previous St. Anger drummer Lars Ulrich and producer Bob Rock told Hammett that guitar solos were dead. But in this album we can see they’re much alive. We haven’t seen Hammett play this way in years, showing everyone, including Lars that guitar solos are a huge part of Metallica’s success. I think Metallica really deserves this all in all. They’re one of the most influential bands of all time, pounding out some of the best metal albums in history. Without Metallica you wouldn’t have bands like Bullet for My Valentine or Black Tide. And they show their dominance once again with Death Magnetic.

Black Ice

This is the fifteenth studio album from the Australian hard rock band Ac/Dc. The album was delayed because bassist Cliff Williams had been injured, but the wait is over. This is the bands first CD since the 2000 release of Stiff Upper Lip, the longest gap between Ac/Dc CDs ever. This is also the bands longest CD ever. I’m so excited for this album. The only Ac/Dc CD I have is the much popular, Back In Black, the bands first CD with lead singer Brian Johnson. The band is much older now, and I’m little scared that might affect their performance on this album, but I’ve heard one song on the radio from Black Ice and they sound exactly the same. Angus Young, lead guitar, still sends shivers down your spine, and Brian Johnson sounds great. The album sold 1,762,000 copies in the first week on the shelves, but is only being sold at Wal-Mart. I don’t really understand this at all. Why would you only sell at Wal-Mart? Wouldn’t you sell even more copies if were also at Best Buy or something? I guess it’s just some deal they made with Wal-Mart. Anyway, I really like the name choice of this CD it’s very Ac/Dc, maybe just because it has the word black in it, but it works. I also like the cover. It’s really in your face with AC/DC in big red letters on a black background. The album also comes in yellow, white, and a bluish ice color symbolizing black ice. I think this is for the special edition CDs. I can’t wait to buy this album, and hopefully won’t be disappointed.

Death Magnetic

Metallica's new album Death Magnetic is killer. In my opinion Metallica is back, and ready to dominate the metal world once again. Now this CD isn't Master Of Puppets or ...And Justice for All by any means, but it is a solid album. James Heitfield sounds decent, and the lyrics are much better than the previous St. Anger's. Kirk Hammett, lead guitar, is back playing awesome solos, that we havn't heard in ages. Everything is working out for the band. I own the CD and have listened through it a couple of times and really like it. Songs like 'The Day that Never Comes' and 'Unforgiven III' refer back to the older days of Metallica when they ruled the music world. This is a great come back for them, considering that people thought Metallica was 'dead' and 'sold out' after the Black Album. This CD shows that Metallica is alive and well.
